Mobile Hotspot Included in Verizon’s iPad 4G LTE Data Plan [GottaBe Mobile]

This should help Verizon iPad customers use their 4G data allotment in the first few minutes of every month (a commenter noted that Verizon already had the same policy – no extra charge to use as a mobile hotspot – for the Samsung Tab).  I’m bummed Verizon and AT&T are leveraging oligopoly pricing models in this context; I’d be keen to have a new 4G iPad, if the 4G data rates were reasonable.

App Battles Driver Distraction but Spares Passengers – Technology Review

Smart phones are a growing source of driver distraction, but researchers hope to use their capabilities to make the devices’ use less dangerous. New sensing technology can determine whether a phone is being used by the driver, or merely a passenger, and is providing a building block for a new generation of distraction-thwarting apps.

Research shows that just talking on a phone increases the risk of a crash four times; texting increases it 23 times.
