BBC News – Sony rolls out rival to iTunes

The group of vendors competing to get into your living room is getting pretty crowded

Sony has launched a new music and video download service as it gears up to challenge Apple’s iTunes.

The announcement, made at the IFA technology fair in Berlin, was timed to coincide with an Apple media event in the US.

Here’s The Difference Between Apple TV And Google TV (San Francisco Chronicle)

So let’s handicap the two, based on what we’ve seen so far:

Google has a very small chance of totally taking over the TV business — which would be a massive coup — and a huge chance of completely failing. (Sort of like its Nexus One phone was a big bet to disrupt the mobile phone industry, which wound up flopping.)

Your email is safer than you think it is.

So we all know that statistics are malleable, right?  Statistics are an interpretation of data, not data itself – they’re subjective.

So when I came across this article this morning citing how “email is still the top source of data loss“, I was curious.  It struck me as odd, because it doesn’t jive with what we’ve seen from other data outlets.  

Specifically, if you look at the public breach disclosure data, you see quite clearly that email isn’t anywhere even close to the top of the list – it’s not even close to the middle…. Continue reading: Your email is safer than you think it is.

Google Voice Is A Hot Mess Right Now [TechCrunch]

Looks like maybe Google should take a break from buying social software/gaming companies and buy a few to bolster their voice strategy

From what I’m hearing this isn’t a short term surge issue, either. There are issues with Google’s core infrastructure conflicting with the type of system Google Voice needs to operate effectively, multiple sources have told me. And Google to date hasn’t made the investment needed to build a proper back end to the service that scales. That doesn’t really work for me as a user. If you wanna be a phone company, you can’t go dead.

It is with great excitement and anticipation that I announce the Month of No Bugs (MONB)!

This month, I promise NOT to look for any new bugs out there, NOT to artificially elevate my bugs above all others, NOT to complain that vendors should give me the attention I deserve, NOT to pound my chest and cry that we need better developers, NOT to ignore all of the other threats and vulnerabilities that exist in IT, NOT to pat myself on the back for finding one of an infinite number of bugs as if it matters, and NOT to increase the aggregate risk on the Internet.
